About the ‘roots’ of Moringa 5000

For years Jenny and I have been asking God to show us what work He has planned for us to do. And of course God has His own timing no matter how impatient we may be.

We did not give up hope but continued to pray and work. Eventually we resigned from our secular jobs, Jenny as the manager of the Jock of the Bushveld centre in Barberton and I as regional manager of Ecoguard distributors for Mpumulanga, Limpopo , Swaziland and Mozambique.

We moved to Kwazulu Natal to retire but it was when we arrived in Hillcrest that God revealed His Purpose for our lives.

The Moringa leaves helps in boosting energy levels in a natural manner, which is long lasting. It is also found to heal ulcers, restrict tumors, reduce arthritis pain and inflammation and control blood pressure.

Donated Food Tunnel

This tunnel was donated to us by Lifestyle Ministries and we were delighted although not quite sure what we would grow inside it.

We were persuaded to have a look at the Moringa tree as our daughter Sue had been growing this remarkable plant for over 4 years and she encouraged us to give it a go.

As we started to study the benefits of this amazing healing tree we became more and more excited. We realized the huge potential for alleviating hunger in the rural areas.

I awoke one morning at 2 am after having had a dream about Jesus feeding 5000 families. I read Matthew 14: 18-21 and realised we could plant Moringa trees to feed 5000 families in the valley of 1000 hills.

That same night I wrote the project proposal and showed it to the Hillcrest presbytarian pastor the next morning.

The Moringa Ministry Grows

Within 2 weeks we were talking to the congregation about the Moringa 5000 project and were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm shown by everyone in the church. R500 was donated immediately after the service.

In 2 more weeks we had sufficient funds for the pilot phase of 200 trees with 10 beneficiaries, which were planted after 2 months. Soon thereafter we had R30 000 funding for another 1000 trees and enough compost and manure for 7000 trees to cover our whole farm.

What a powerful and awesome God we serve! The project is ongoing and you can read updates on the Moringa 5000 blog or via our Facebook page, we would love to hear from you!
